Light Bowgun

A long range projectileweapon. Utilizes a varietyof ammo to do everythingfrom rapidly shooting targetsto providing support withstatus-changing ammo.

Internal Ammo

Each Bowgun comes equipped with specific internal ammo. This ammo is different depending on the Bowgun you're using. Internal ammo is indicated by the blue highlight when selecting your ammo during a Quest.

Wyvern S

Ammo derived from the Wyvern's Fire mechanism

Slicing S

Ammo that ejects blades on impact, and deals cutting damage to the area it hits

Blast S

Ammo that causes explosive reactions

Force S

Heavy damage but strong recoil.

Heavy S

Can flinch monsters from critical range.

Sting S

Heavy damage to soft parts.

Cannon S

Explodes on impact.

Long S

Ammo with a farther critical range.

Stone S

Simple but high capacity ammo.

Flaming S Lv2

Strong Fire Elemental ammo.

Water S Lv2

Strong Water Elemental ammo.

Thunder S Lv2

Strong Thunder Elemental ammo.

Ice S Lv2

Strong Ice Elemental ammo.

Dragon S Lv2

Strong Dragon Elemental ammo.

P.Flaming S

Piercing Fire Elemental ammo.

P.Water S

Piercing Water Elemental ammo.

P.Thunder S

Piercing Thunder Elemental ammo.

P. Freeze S

Piercing Ice Elemental ammo.

Triblast S

Explodes three times on impact.

Shrapnel S

Same effects as Pellet S on impact area.

Dazzling S

A high-speed light round.

Poison Smoke S

Emits Poison Smoke on impact.

Demon S

Boosts the targeted ally's Attack.

Demon Affinity S

Boosts Attack and Affinity.

Armor S

Boosts the targeted ally's Defense.

Super Armor S

Boosts Defense, negates Knockback.

Flash S

Same effect as Flash Bombs.

Dung S

Same effect as Dung Bombs.

Remedy S

Heals status; boosts Natural Recovery.

Group Recover S

Heals all allies in an area.

Demon Armor S

Boosts Attack and Defense.

Rapid Fire

Automatically fire multiple rounds at the cost of one shot. Rapid fire can only be done with specific ammo, and leaves you open for a period of time. Any ammo that can be used with Rapid Fire is highlighted in green when selecting ammo.

Rapid Fire-capable Internal Ammo

Some Internal Ammo can also be used for Rapid Fire. In this situation, that ammo is highlighted in blue and green when selecting ammo during a Quest.

Common Bowgun Controls

Changing Ammo

Hold down to open the Item Window, and then use and to cycle through available ammo.

Scope/Quick Aim

Scope (Press)

Use or to aim the reticle.
When using the V.Zoom Scope, left and right with will change the magnification.

Quick Aim (Hold)

Use to move your hunter, and to aim.

Bowgun Controls

Select Bowgun Controls in the game menu's Options.

Type 1

When you press the reticle button, the reticle will face the direction the hunter is facing. The angle will match the camera.

Type 2

When you press the reticle button, the reticle will point in the direction and angle the camera is facing, regardless of the direction the player is facing.

Type 3

When you press the reticle button, the reticle will appear in the direction and angle the Bowgun is facing.

Reload
(During a jump you can attack and reload)

Fire
(Perform during a jump to fire in mid-air)

Reload While Sheathed

Backstep
(Press to sidestep left or right)

Jumping Downward Shot

Press + while in the air to fire a Downward Shot. If you do this with ammo capable of Rapid Fire, you can shoot Rapid Fire shots downwards.

  • Boost Jump

  • Near a monster

  • Downward Shot

  • +

  • Jump Shot

*Perform a Downward Shot with Rapid Fire-compatible ammo to perform a rapid fire version of Downward Shot.
This will not combo into Jump Shot.

  • Boost Jump

  • Near a monster

  • Downward Shot

Forward Dodge (perform just before an attack hits you for an Insta-Evade)

Power Reload

Your Bowgun will automatically reload after an Insta-Evade, and your attack power will temporarily increase.

Power Run

After an Insta-Evade, press to use some Stamina and perform a Power Run.

Recommended Combo 1

  • Insta-Evade

  • Perform just before an attack hits you

  • Power Reload

  • (automatically performed)

  • Fire

  • Perform just before an attack hits you
