First Round of Stage Gimmicks

The Cutting Room Floor

Hey there, today we're going to show you some ideas we had for stage gimmicks!
What do we mean by stage gimmicks, you ask?
These are things such as people reacting to the fighters actions, or a goat statue falling over when it's touched.

Pet Tiger Owner
stg_ch00.jpg
This was planned for the China stage.
The pet tiger would eat the duck.
It was really depressing, and having a pet tiger around is actually a REALLY bad idea when you want to have stages that seemed sensible, so it was rejected.

Crowd Carrying a Dragon
stg_ch01.jpg
Another gimmick planned for the China stage.
We thought it was wonderful and easy to understand, but it would stand out too much in battle and become a hindrance to the players, so we nixed it.

The Mayor Caught in the Elevator
stg_krn01.jpg
Planned for the Kanzuki Estate stage.
We thought it was interesting but kind of comes out of nowhere so we went with something else.
What exactly is he doing at the Kanzuki Estate anyway?

Sushi Machine
stg_krn02.jpg
A machine gimmick planned for the Kanzuki Estate stage.
This machine was created specifically to create giant sushi rolls. Does rice even grow that big!?
People really liked it, but for some reason we didn't go with it.

"Manjushage" Satellite
stg_krn00.jpg
Did you know that the Kanzuki family has their own satellite, named the Manjushage?
Did you know it comes out from behind a waterfall!?
Well, now you do! We didn't go with this because if we did, we'd have no space for other gimmicks.

Dinosaur
stg_nz.jpg
A gimmick planned for the Forgotten Waterfall stage.
A little too fantasy, I think.
If we didn't have a good reason for it, we didn't want to put in things that never existed in the real world, so this got cut.
Next!

US Army Base
stg_usa.jpg
This is one doozy of a stage!
The elevator takes you down all the way underground.
The background of course, changes as the elevator moves.
While we liked the idea we felt the story element of it was weak, so we went in another direction.

Shadaloo Submarine
stg_sha00.jpg
Shadaloo's fully loaded submarine!
The big boss of Shadaloo would be traveling in this while conquering the world, but it didn't seem like an interesting idea so we nixed it.
However, Shadaloo does own a submarine!

I think it's obvious, but the Chinese stage and Kanzuki Estate stages have quite a lot of gimmicks in them!
We also had a lot of stage ideas, so hopefully someday we can show them to you!
