Art Discussion No. 001: Suspicious Anatomical Illustration
Nice to meet you! My name is Kamei.
n this corner I'd like to gather materials related to art, and thoughts on art in fighting games.
To kick off this entry I'd like to share the "Suspicious Anatomical Illustration," a guidebook that's been passed down through the generations of the fighting game dev teams. I gave a presentation recently at GDC 2017 and there were a lot of requests for this from the audience. There are plenty of other materials that are used as a reference during our daily development, and I'd like to share those in the future as well.
Outline of the "Suspicious Anatomical Illustration"
This is a collection of anatomical drawings put together by various illustrators who have come before me, dating back to the pixel art era (about 20 years before?). I believe these materials are based on the works of Andrew Loomis, and in addition to that it's got the know-how featured through a careful selector of necessary materials for expressing the human body in a limited pixel-resolution. It's difficult to make out, but the cover features Dimitri.
Note: When I found this in the internal archives, as a Street Fighter 1 fan I literally shook with joy. I truly thought - man, am I glad I work for Capcom.

That's all for today. See you next time!
